The All For Sale / Wanted Section Of Craigslist Is Filled With Domain Names For Sale

A few years ago I remembered reading a couple of blog entries about domain names being promoted for sale via Craigslist. I decided to check this out for myself and found some interesting listings in the All For Sale / Wanted section of the site. Before I get into discussing a few of the domain for sale listings I found, I just want to forewarn that a site like Craigslist is riddled with scammers and fraudulent listings. It is really important to do your due diligence if you are interested in either selling or buying on the site.

Please note that I only searched Los Angeles and surrounding areas for the keyword domain.

Here are a few of the listings that I found interesting:

SteamCleaningLosAngeles.com – Carpet Cleaning Domain for sale – $350

Although the title of this Craigslist listing is only advertising the domain for sale, the seller is also including the website within the $350 sales price. I could see someone in the lead generation business picking this up or even a Los Angeles based carpet cleaning company.

DOMAIN NAMES – $1 (ONLINE)

Listings like this are extremely misleading. The seller posted $1 in the posting title and when you dig a little deeper you realize none of the domains that the seller is selling come close to $1. On the other hand the seller is using a reputable marketplace in his listing to showcase a few of the names they have for sale.

WWW.FEDERALJAIL.COM – $15000

In this listing the seller points out that the domain would be great for bail bondsmen or criminal attorneys. What the seller doesn’t mention is he is promoting a federal prison manual affiliate product with the domain name. This is the perfect example of using Craigslist to drive traffic to a website to try and upsell a visitor. The seller is killing two birds with one stone. I feel $15,000 is a little high for a name like this, but I do have to give the seller kudos. I clicked on the domain link and I am sure plenty of other people did so as well.

As you can see, some of the listings on this site make sense and others are simply ploys to try and upsell a visitor on a product.

Have any of you experienced any success with listing a domain or website for sale on Craigslist? If so, I would love to hear more about it!
